Culture, Community, Sports, Family

The Vietnamese Student Association was established at the University of Texas on October 12, 1972. Today, we are one of the largest student-run organizations on campus. We welcome everyone from any background to join VSA and to see what we’re all about. As a social-cultural student organization, VSA is a great way to meet new people and make lifelong friends. Being a student-run organization, VSA puts great emphasis on the community, the Vietnamese culture, sports, and the Texas VSA family.

Culture.

Promoting the Vietnamese culture is a top priority in VSA. Many different events are held throughout the year in order to achieve this goal. Culture workshops, where members learn more about the Vietnamese culture through arts and crafts, games, and learning basic Vietnamese, are held throughout the semester.

VSA’s biggest cultural event, Culture Showcase, is a show that allows members of VSA to put on cultural performances. With members coming from all backgrounds, they are exposed to the lifestyles and traditions of Vietnam. With these events going on in VSA, we are also trying to bring the Vietnamese curriculum to the University of Texas!

Community.

Without support and sponsorships throughout the city of Austin, VSA would not be what it is today. In order to give back to the community, numerous events are held throughout the school year, allowing VSA members to show their support through service.

VSA’s annual Date Auction and Benefit Luncheon are events that raise money for local charities. VSA members also volunteer at Summitt Elementary School’s Mid-Autumn Festival, weekly tutoring at the school, the Lunar New Year Festival, and more!

Sports.

Here at the University of Texas intramural sports are a vital part of almost every college student’s life. In VSA, members are able to compete in a variety of sports through intramurals, including football, basketball, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, and more! Numerous teams are created for every sport we compete in, so everyone of every skill level can play on VSA’s intramural teams!

Family.

At the beginning of every school year, the members of VSA are divided into families. Because VSA is a large organization, we divide into families so that everyone has the opportunity to meet someone new and build more personal connections. Each family, led by two officers, will have occasional family events, compete against other families, and will develop a strong sense of pride.

All of this culminates to our EPIC Family Retreat, a competition-filled event! In VSA, every member will feel a strong connection with not only their VSA families but with other members because in VSA, everyone is family!
